The Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an is surrounded by water. Muyil used to be a part of the Ancient Mayan trade route. Get ready to be enveloped by nature in one of the largest National Park Reserves in Mexico where we will start your adventure off in the lush and tangled jungle of the Archeological Site Muyil. We arrive at a dock where we meet our captain and begin our boat ride through the rest of the reserve, crossing through natural channels, slowing down to view intertwining mangrove roots eye to eye, home to nurseries of juvenile fish and host to many air plants such as orchids and bromeliads. Once we park the boat at a dock, we jump into one of the channels and let the natural current carry us through the magical mangrove tunnel. The water is fresh and just the right temperature, the shade of the trees is perfect and the calming sounds of birds and water allow us to let go and unwind into a moving meditation. After about 40 minutes of floating, we walk through the savannah of Sian Ka’an and start heading back between the two lagoons. From here we will take you to try out Yucatecan style tacos.
Afterwards, we will head south, just a 5 minute drive from the archeological site, into a private nature preserve. Covered by the shade of the Canopy of a Subtropical forest, we walk through a path where we spot spider monkeys, howler monkeys and/or maybe other fauna. There is also a cenote at the bottom of a spiral stairway, where you can enjoy refreshing yourself and take some incredible pictures as you head out, surrounded by ferns covering the cenote entrance.
