Overview

The archeological site of Chichen Itza, one of the seven new wonders of the world. Everybody who comes to visit the Riviera Maya asks  if it is worth it. We say yes, definitely, if you do it the right way. Avoiding the crowds, with an archeological guide that has up-to-date information about the site. In this tour, we leave from your lodging in our private transportation early in the morning to be able to get to Chichen Itza before the tourism masses arrive. As you walk through the main entrance area, you start appreciating the size of the great platform above which the main temples are standing, reaching the sky.  It’s a majestic view. As part of the great Mayan civilization, the area of Chichen Itza was at its peak between the years 900 – 1200 A.C. Their power reached the entire Yucatan Peninsula, and despite their downfall in the hands of neighboring Mayapan, it remained as a ceremonial site for the surrounding Mayan population. The area, abandoned around 1250 A.C. is nowadays a World Heritage Site according to UNESCO and allows us to take you through it while learning about the Mayan history, architecture and cosmovision.

After visiting Chichen Itza, you get the chance to visit a modern colonial city, Valladolid. Just an hour away, this is one of the state of Yucatan’s most important cities and an example of how modern Mexican life looks like. Also part of the colonization, Valladolid has its history and iconic temples, it’s definitely worth a visit.

We will visit a Cenote and have lunch on site. The variety of cenotes in this area is overwhelming. We choose one of the more spectacular ones which allow us to avoid the crowds like Saamal, Yokdzonot or another of your preference. Since we are flexible with our times, and enjoy guiding you around our beautiful country, we always allow some free time and if needed, considering the area is known for its traditional craftsmanship, take you to pick out some souvenirs.  After that long day it’s time to go home, brain full and suitcases stuffed with Mexican Art.
